Paving Contractors in Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire | SuDS

Here at Parklane Driveways, we pride ourselves on being leading environmentally-conscious paving contractors in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire area. We recognise that paving constructions such as patios and driveways laid by other companies play a role in the interference of natural water infiltration process. With a team that shares over 30 years of trade and industry experience, Parklane Driveways proudly offers SuDs (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) in locations across Abingdon, Banbury, Bicester, Didcot, Kidlington and Witney.

In our position as paving contractors, we place great importance on SuDs because they supersede conventional drainage systems that simply route water through pipes to a designated watercourse. Instead, they utilise a series of water management practices and facilities to drain surface water in an ethical and sustainable way.

The sustainable nature of SuDs offers local communities in Abingdon, Banbury, Bicester and the surrounding areas the opportunity to:
  • Protect and enhance water quality by reducing pollution from runoff
  • Reduce the impact of urban flooding by managing runoff volumes
  • Provide evapotranspiration from surface water and vegetation
  • Recharge natural groundwater or aquifer stores
  • Provide natural habitats for a variety of wildlife
  • Create better environments to for everyone

When installed professionally by experienced paving contractors, SuDS are sympathetic to their surrounding environment, blending in seamlessly while carrying out their essential role.

Having implemented SuDS schemes in regional locations such as Didcot, Kidlington, Witney and the neighbouring areas, Parklane Driveways has seen first-hand the positive effect that they can have.

SuDS | How do They Work?

Well-designed and meticulously-planned SuDs in Abingdon, Banbury, Bicester and neighbouring Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire locations perfectly mimic natural drainage regimes. By lowering overall flow rates and increasing the capacity for water storage, as well as decreasing the transport of pollutants in the water, SuDS bring about a reduction in surface water flooding and improve the biodiversity and amenity of an area, as well as its water quality.

The features within SuDS that bring about these improvements in locations such as Didcot, Kidlington and Witney include:
  • Filter Strips – Areas of ground covered with vegetation that absorbs runoff flowing from nearby hard surfaces.
  • Swales – Resembling long shallow ditches, swales carry collected water elsewhere, slowing the flow of total surface runoff
  • Permeable Surfaces – An alternative to impervious paving, permeable surfaces allow for below-ground drainage to be markedly reduced, or even eliminated
  • Filter & Infiltration Trenches – These features allow for the retention, and gradual release, of water to the ground or a sewerage system
  • Detention Basins – These above-ground features remain dry most of the time, but flood during heavy rainfall, safely retaining excess water
  • Ponds & Wetlands – As permanent water features, pond levels can fluctuate in order to control water flow and reduce flooding. Additional planting also creates wetlands that further improve these functions

In addition to SuDS, we also provide a wider range of services as paving contractors, including the installation of block paving and pattern imprinted concrete patios and driveways.
